Abant İzzet Baysal University

Abant Izzet Baysal University was founded on July 3, 1992 with the aim of establishing a centre of excellence in higher education and research. Today it has 8 faculties, 3 institutes, 5 two-year programmes, 6 vocational schools and 4 research centres. Nine hundred academicians are proud to educate 18200 students in this modern environment. Academic Units of Abant Izzet Baysal University are spread out to a large area, which includes the districts of Bolu province, like Gerede, Mengen, Mudurnu and the neighbouring province Düzce and its district Akçakoca. The main Izzet Baysal Campus of the University is the central one and is only 8 kms to the city centre.

The University accepts unreservedly that creating an academic ground for social, cultural, scientific, economic and technological development in an international context is essential for its mission. For this reason, Abant Izzet Baysal University aims to be a dynamic institution focusing at excellence that will bring the development of our society and mankind to the highest universal standards. So far the University has covered a long distance and become
“The most rapidly progressing University in Turkey”. Excellent educational infrastructure, including a modern library and extensive computer facilities with internet connection, creates a unique research environment.
Abant Izzet Baysal University is a unique university model in Turkey not for being a purely state university nor a foundation university but instead “a foundation supported state university”. This status enables the university to receive funds both from the government and the Izzet Baysal Foundation. The university with its perfect physical structure and high-technology equipment obtained in a short period of time with the investments of Izzet Baysal Foundation as well as opportunities provided by the State offers a modern and developed environment for its students. Izzet Baysal Foundation provides the successful students scholarship opportunities.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Abant Izzet Baysal University campuses offer extensive social and cultural facilities. Activities such as symposium, panel, conference, concert, theatre and film shows have been done in multi-purpose Culture Centre which is located on Izzet Baysal Campus and in Blue Hall (holding 514 people) and in Pink Hall (holding 208 people). A simultaneous system, holding 140 people, is set up in Blue Hall where 3 different languages can be translated simultaneously. The Exhibition Hall continuously holds the art activities. Also, cultural and scientific activities have been organised in a hall, holding 350 people, in Izzet Baysal Medicine Faculty Morphology Building .
Our university has also participated in “Izzet Baysal Thanksgiving Days” with several activities which are organised every year on May 11 th for the great charitable Izzet Baysal who made 100 million dollars worth investment for Bolu. Within the week following “Izzet Baysal Days”, Spring Festivities have been held in our university. Activities and concerts, in which amateur and famous singers perform during the day, have been available in the Spring Festivities which are organised by the students for a week.

SPORTS ACTIVITIES
The Sport Centre, consisting of twin dome hall, which is located on Izzet Baysal Campus with its indoor-outdoor sport areas, has the capacity of hosting every kind of sports activity.
On Bolu City Campus, a sport hall and football field are in the service of our students.
In this gymnasium and the pitch recreation programs along with educational activities have been organized and supplied for the students. The services are available from 9 am to 23 pm. Our Mountaineering and Skiing Education Center located on Kartalkaya has been in the service of the students and the academic staff of our own university and other universities. Sport competitions in which the students and the staff participate within the university are held in a schedule covering the whole term and we join the competitions among the universities held by the Association of the University Sports.

INFORMATICS
The major priority of Abant İzzet Baysal University is to benefit from the advancing information technology of our age at maximum level on purpose of research and education. For this purpose, the most recent innovations have been searched for and supplied for the students. Over 1500 computers are available to students in all faculties, higher education schools and in laboratories as well. The internet connection has been used on each campus of our university since 1995. All processes from student registrations to recording students’ grades have been fulfilled using computer media.

TRANSPORTATION
İzzet Baysal Campus, our main campus is 8 kilometers far from downtown Bolu. Transportation service is provided by private public buses and public minibuses and the public buses.

FOOD
On each campus of our university, lunch service is provided regularly. The menu organized by nutrition and dietician specialists is catered by private sector and supplied to our students with an economical charge (app. 1€). For those having financial problems lunch and dinner are provided without any charge in respect to contingent. Besides, a market providing appropriate shopping opportunities for students a patisserie and cafeteria are located on our university campus.

ACCOMMODATION
Boys dormitory, holding 680 people and girls dormitory holding 680 people, which are located on İzzet Baysal Campus and administrated by our university, are in the service of our students. In both of the dormitories there are working rooms for art and music, TV halls, study rooms, reading rooms and student canteens that are permanently open. The application for university dormitories are made during the registrations. There are private dormitories holding 80 people which are primarily in the service of master students. Dormitory rooms are for maximum 8 people. In addition to canteen, hairdresser and barber services, there is also laundry service. Monthly dormitory prices are kept at the same level with the equivalent dormitories of Credit and Dormitories Institution.
There are also dormitories having enough capacities in other campuses of our university that are bound to Credit and Dormitories Institution.
